He wasn't exactly aware of what was going on around him, but he wasn't entirely insensate, either. It was rather like a dream state, except that, somehow, fuzzily, he knew that he wasn't ever likely to wake up from this terrible nightmare of ice and emptiness and immobility.

Years had most likely passed since Beryl had sealed him there. He vaguely remembered a long period of time during which nothing at all had happened, when no light had shone on his prison and he had been even less aware of the passage of seconds and minutes, hours and days and weeks and months, than he normally was.

If he had been any more awake, he would have been going quietly mad.

But just recently, something had changed. He had begun feeling a resonance, of sorts, inside himself. Suddenly, there had been energy flowing through him. Most of it had entered him and then been sucked out again so quickly that he barely had time to realize that it was there, but enough had stuck with him that he had once more risen to a semiconscious awareness of his state.

Is someone looking for me? The thought took an eternity to form inside his frozen brain. And Jadeite, first General of the Negaverse to fall in the course of Beryl's incompetent plotting, felt something that he hadn't experienced in a long time.

Hope.

Hope that someone was finally going to free him to die.
