Kunzite walks up and shakes Zoisite who is dozing on the couch.

K: Hey, look what we got in the mail!
Z: Huh? Wha..?
K: Look! Look! A fanfic for us to MST!

Zoisite sits up, alert now.

Z: Whoa! Cool!
K: Wanna do it now?
Z: Oh sure! <tugs at his open collar>
K: No! Not that!!
Z: Heh, got you there. Open the thing, quick!
K: What?!
Z: The envelope you idiot!

The Venusian Masquerade

K: Hm, imaginative title.
Z: Ooh! Long words, didn't think the author could handle them!

Disclaimer: All characters belong to Naoko Takeuchi. A few of these situations were created by Rosalind Laker. Don't sue. Thank you.

K: Aha! Shamelessly copied from some one else eh?

Chapter 1

Z: What?! You mean this isn't the only one?!

The Moon Court had kept its opulence through its many years of history. Wonderful dances, balls and performances had been held many a night, this being no exception.

K: Yeah, the disco lights were pumping, the music loud...

Little silver lights adorned the hall,

Z: Look! Pretty lights!

welcoming the guests that streamed through the double doors.

K: And so you would have prefered it if they had streamed in through the windows?

The choir was performing this particular evening-

Z and K: Gasp! No!

the source that had attracted many noble men and ladies.

Z: Have these royal types no life?

Even people from Earth had heard of the splendid voices that would echo in one's mind long after one had left the hall, yet only the subjects to the Queen Serenity had paid witness to these melodies.

K: Wow, Queen Serenity is into sado-masochism?

Makoto winced under the strain of the tight corset that she was wearing,

K: Hey, you wanna take it off?
Z: <whacks him upside the head.>

but she would bear with it for the time being. This was her big chance to sing for the royal court subjects, as well as her friend's and she would not ruin the evening by complaining about what she wore.

Z (as Makoto): Nope, hot pink definitely ain't my colour.

The performance was being held in the honour of Queen Serenity's birthday as she had not wanted it to be too fancy an affair.

K: Ahem, you don't call this a fancy affair?

She had often teased her friend, "You my friend, shall be the Flame of the Moon Court, while I, the

K: Stripper.
Z: Shut up! Innocent crowd maybe watching!

Rose," so saying, she would finger one of the rose earrings she always wore. She knew of course, that no one could ever take the position of lead singer from Princess Serenity.

Z: Unless some one kills her of course.

This was by no prejudice, as Serenity's voice was matched by no other.

K (as Makoto): *Waaah! No fair! Just cos she's the Princess!*

Her friend noticed her sudden forlorn expression.

Z: And decided to 'cheer her up'. <leer>
K: You were saying something about an innocent crowd?

"Something wrong Mako? Nervous?"

Z: <sarcastically, as Makoto> No, it's just that our whole singing careers depend on tonight, why the hell should I be nervous?

"No," she replied, a light smile touching her delicate lips,

K: hey author, how'd you know her lips were delicate? <grin>

"but how are you coping in the wind little Flame?"

Z (as friend): You've been listening to Elton John haven't you?
K: You know, Elton John is...
Z: Don't say it Kunz!
K: What? Elton John is great!
Z: What about me then?!

Her friend made a face in reply, "Spare me Mako. Is my hair really so red? I have a name as you would know - Marianna. And I would like you to use it."

Z (as Marianna): Well, here's my name card in case you forget again, my amnesia stricken friend...

Makoto shook her head bemusedly. Marianna never failed to realize that it was not merely because of her hair, but her personality as well.

K: How'd you know Mako? <leer>
Z: Kunz, If you don't shut up with these jokes right now, you are going to get it.

Her sharp tongue had never failed her before, but as Makoto had said, there would come a man that would strike her so wordless that she would have no more pretty speeches in her head.

Z (as Marianna): And I, Marianna, will punish you in the name of the Moon!

She wouldn't have to wait long, Makoto thought, her beauty has already turned the eyes of men wherever she went.

K: Ouch, sounds pretty painful...

"Shh! The curtains will go up any minute now." as if on cue, the heavy velvet

Z: Fell directly on top of Tuxedo Kamen who was in the middle of a stupid speech.

slowly rose.

K: Yeah, rose like the Titanic.

The music maestro tapped on the stand annoyingly, in the only way a music maestro could.

Z (as Maestro): Tap, tap, tap, hee, hee, hee!!

Now Marianna could see the masquerading audience. The haughty, expectant atmosphere made her nervous,

K: but she couldn't give the royals a damn!

but she still found her eyes wandering over the room, surveying the various masks present.

Z: Gag! Tux Kamen wannabes!

Feathers and jewels of every hue hid the faces of the proud audience. Evil, she thought silently, the way in which the unsettled guests milled about.

K: So, were they milling corn or what?

Their sinister masks were moving in and out in an unrelenting dance.

Z and K singing (Chage and Aska): Moving in, moving out, they are nothing but strangers, strange as it seems...

Her reverie was broken

K: Like a Ming vase.

by the appearance of two late comers - a tall man and a dainty woman. She had long silken blonde hair, held up by a gold clasp. The pale yellow organza gown clung to her voluptuous body,

Z: So Marianna, you finally reveal your true nature.

accompanied by a silk mask that covered the top half of her face.

K: Unfortunately, the mask maker neglected to make holes for the eyes. She realized that when she tripped because her vision was obsecured.

The female wasn't the one that held Marianna's eye though. Her escort was tall, at least six feet tall she decided.

Z: Does the author have any idea how much six feet is?!

His loose silver hair flowed around his shoulders as he walked with a graceful, but powerful step.

K: Ahem, I think this another fic that explore our past love lives.
Z: Well, just shows the author doesn't have one herself.

A gold mask obscured the features Marianna was most curious about

K: How he did in bed?
Z: Shut up befor I tape your mouth, bleach head.

- his face. What was it like? He attended, as proper to his lady.

K(as tall guy): Hey, wanna sit there?
Z(as 'yellow' woman): No!
K(as tall guy): Fine, be that way!

The guests that had already gathered watched in a horrified silence.

K: Why are we here?
Z: Why did we come to this stupid screech show?

What is wrong? Marianna wondered.

K: Get a clue girl.

Makoto grimaced, she knew full well who the aristocratic couple was.

Z: They were Jeannie and Captain Nelson.
K: Lucy and Ricky?
Z and K: <begin to hum the theme to "I love Lucy">

Princess Minako and Prince Celano of Venus.

K: Agh! Why did the author give me such a stupid name?!
Z: Better than me, pretty boy. Geez, what kind of a name is Marianna?! And why, for god's sakes am I a woman?!

What was more, their sworn enemies were present, Oliveiro

Z: Well, guess we're not the only victims.

and Naru of Jupiter.

K: Naru is the princess of Jupiter????!!!

There was going to be trouble, she knew it.

Z: Like duh! They are *sworn* enemies!

A chair was pushed back harshly, scraping against the marble floor.

K (as janitor): Hey! I just waxed the place!

The Prince of Venus turned around coolly to meet the smouldering eyes

Z: His eye were on *fire*?!

behind the pale lavender mask of Oliveiro. The guests held their breath as the fingers of the princes touched the hilts of their swords.

K (as Oliveiro): Hey punk, wanna draw?

"What's going on?" Makoto heard the nervous whisper. Her answer was equally soft, but shades more intense.

Z (as Makoto): I....love... you...
K: Zoi....

"The two planets have been feuding with each other for centuries. It started when a Venusian princess scorned the affections of a prince of Jupiter. The prince later had her killed in secret.

Z: Yup, one thing just leads to another huh?

They've been on the verge of war for years. Luckily, Queen Serenity's hold over both of them have stopped that from happening." Marianna wondered at this. How could anger over a petty matter such as that rage over hundreds of years?

K: Man, girl, you're soooo innocent.

"And," Makoto added grimly, her voice dripping in

Z: Good cheer.

sarcasm," if we're lucky,

K (as Makoto): We'll get to catch that base ball game after all!

we will see blood drawn." she then returned her gaze to the mounting drama

Z: That was obviously not present.

The two men were sparring each other, though not a word passed between them. Hatred burned in both their eyes.

K: How, may I ask, are you supposed to do that? I thought there were supposed be insults, really ugly insults!

"Please love, no!" Minako's pleading voice broke through. The hand that was so close to unsheathing the sword withdrew and Celano took his seat in one of the front rows.

Z (as Celano): Damn, could have cut him up like bacon.

Oliveiro seemed to be insulted by this. He wanted dearly to strike while his opponent's back was turned,

K: Booo!

but he, too, was soothed by the gentle words of his lady.

The guests sighed, some in relief of not having the performance ruined and some in disappointment as they had not seen any blood.

Z: You want to see blood? Go to the blood bank!

Marianna was one of those who were relieved. She had expected a bloody sword fight,

K: notice the author's fascination with blood?

followed possibly by death, but she soon realized that her fears had been groundless. The two rivals would not duel one another while on the Moon. Queen Serenity would not allow it.

Z (as Queen Serenity): All right you two! Break it up! Break it up!

Soon, a melodious chorus filled the room,

K: Chilling the audience to the bone.

washing away the ill feelings that had earlier been.

Z: Been what?

Makoto and Marianna were up next to perform a duet. The two had perfect accompaniment : Makoto's voice, deep and rich, while Marianna's was clear and tinkling.

K: And they sang in prefect harmony: Like a two cats yowling in a trash can.

Singing their last note, Celano stood up and applauded them,

Z: As a sign of respect, not that he really wanted to.

"Well sung sweet maidens, truly magnificent."

K (as Celano): Next time you sing, do shut up.

his voice was slightly rough, but deep and wonderful at the same time.

Z: Err, right.

He took the hand of his partner and led her toward the door. She was obviously not in the mood to remain in the hall any longer.

K: Cos she wanted to get back to their bed chambers ASAP.
Z: Kunzite sama....
K(defensive): What?!
Z: Shouldn't we be going, too?

The strangest thing happened next.

Z: A little pink pig flew across the ceiling!
K: Ooops! Looks like an attack from Chibiusa! Take cover!

Perhaps it was a trick of light, or maybe an indeliberate glance,

K: Ten to one babe, don't get your hopes up.

but Marianna could have sworn that as Celano turned to watch his back for Oliveiro that he looked directly at her.

Z (dull monotone): Wow he looked at me. How scarey...

The End of Chapter 1

Z and K: God, there's more?

Kunzite settles back in couch, having done a sucessful MST.

K: What can we do now?
Z: I've got some pretty good ideas...
