VII - The Chariot

View the pencil drawing of The Chariot

The Chariot is the final Trump of the first row of the Tarot. It symbolizes the power of the will, concentration of all forces (of nature, mind and even subconscious power) into one focus to achieve the ultimate victory. The chariot is a card that shows the grown-up person who went through the stages of the Trumps before, but who currently hides behind an - albeit triumphant - mask. Usually The Chariot combines the symbols of the other Trumps of the first row thos show that it's the sum of the learning process the person has gone through.

The qualities of The Chariot are victory, control, power, the victory of the soul over one's mortality.

Traditionally, The Chariot is connected with the Zodiac Sign Cancer and the Moon.

My rendering of The Chariot shows Leo Aiolia in the triumph cart which is drawn by two lions. The Saint Seiya mythology fits perfectly into this card - one could see it as the final step to reach the ultimate cosmo, the seventh sense. As the ultimate cosmo can only be reached via focusing one's will perfectly, this card speaks of the same goal. I exchanged the sphinxes or horses that traditionally draw the chariot for two lions. So I lost some of the classic symbolic meanings, but then, I chose to use some artistic license...
